Preparing for your Trip to Bulgaria
As soon as you have decided that you want to explore Bulgaria, it is advisable to start with the preparations soon afterwards. It is best to check with the Bulgarian embassy in your country to verify the requirements for travel and for obtaining visas (whenever applicable). Those who are citizens of EU member states, and the following countries, can stay in Bulgaria without visas for up to 90 days: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Israel.
The Best Time for your Bulgarian Trip
Expect a temperate climate when in Bulgaria – the summers are hot and dry, while the winters are wet and cold, most likely with heavy snowing. The best time to visit Bulgaria is during the season of spring, especially April until the middle of June; this season has all of the theatres and cultural destinations open, with the bonus of low-season rates.
If you’d like to witness Bulgaria’s festivals, and if you enjoy hiking, you should go during the summer months, which starts from the middle of June until the early part of September. You’ll be able to enjoy exciting summer activities in Bulgaria during these months, but you also have to get ready for the peak season rates in most of the tourist spots.
